Ritual Project Dossier

Written for the quest “Seeing the Long Game” with PLOAA on The Republic.

1. Project Goal

Ritual is building a Layer-1 blockchain purpose-built for AI. It enables native on-chain AI inference, agent execution, and compute inside trusted execution environments (TEEs). Smart contracts and autonomous agents can call models, schedule their own execution, hold capital, and operate with privacy and verifiability.

Key elements include Infernet (AI compute network for smart contracts) and Ritual Chain, which treats agents as first-class participants with native precompiles for LLMs, HTTP, and other compute.

2. Tokenomics

  • Token: RITUAL (native asset of the Ritual network)
  • Initial Supply: 10,000,000,000
  • Maximum Supply: Uncapped (issuance + burn)

Allocations (from official page):

  • Core Contributors: 29% (2.9B)
  • Ecosystem Growth + R&D: 25% (2.5B)
  • Network Participation & Future Incentives: 14% (1.4B)
  • Labs Investors: 11.3% (1.13B)
  • Ritual Foundation: 10% (1B)
  • Labs Treasury: 5% (500M)
  • Frontier AI Grants: 4.7% (470M)
  • Foundation Private Sale: 1% (100M)

Utility:

  • Staking (validators and delegators)
  • Payment for AI inference, HTTP calls, scheduled execution, and gas
  • Governance (phased transition to stakers)

Issuance & Burn: ~5% annualized staking rewards initially (expected to decline). Base fees burned under an EIP-1559-style model.

3. Unlock + Dilution Risk

At Ritual Public Mainnet launch:

  • 1.8B RITUAL (18% of initial supply) unlocked.
  • Sources of unlock: 12.5% of supply from Ecosystem Growth + R&D, 5% from Ritual Foundation treasury, and 0.5% (50M) community airdrop.

All insider allocations (Core Contributors, Labs Investors, Labs Treasury, Foundation Private Sale, Frontier AI Grants, and the remaining portions of other categories) are locked for a minimum of one year from mainnet launch. Locked tokens cannot be staked.

Detailed vesting (from official page):

  • Core Contributors: Locked year 1; then 33–50% at the one-year mark with remainder linear through month 24 or 36.
  • Labs Investors: Locked year 1; 50% at one-year mark, remainder linear through month 24.
  • Foundation Private Sale: Locked year 1, then linear through month 24.
  • Network Participation & Future Incentives (remaining 13.5%): Locked 15 months, then monthly through month 48.
  • Other categories follow one-year lock + linear or monthly unlocks over up to four years.

Final tokens unlock four years after launch. Largest dilution pressure begins after the one-year cliff as Core Contributors (29%) and Labs Investors (11.3%) start unlocking. Community airdrop (0.5%) is fully unlocked at launch with no lockup.

4. Team Verification Signals

Ritual was founded by Niraj Pant and Akilesh Potti (former Polychain Capital). The team has published research accepted at conferences including ICML, ICLR, and NeurIPS. Core contributors are documented through the Ritual Foundation site, research posts, and GitHub activity under the project’s organizations. Independent verification is available via public profiles and funding announcements.

5. Key Risks

  • Technical Risk: Native on-chain AI execution with TEEs and heterogeneous compute is complex. Correct verification of inference and agent behavior under adversarial conditions remains challenging.
  • Execution Risk: Attracting both high-quality AI executors and sustained demand for on-chain inference and agents requires simultaneous bootstrapping of supply and demand.
  • Dilution Risk: Significant insider unlocks begin after a one-year cliff. Core Contributors (29%) represent the largest single allocation subject to post-cliff release.
  • Regulatory Risk: Operating an AI-native L1 that settles compute and agent activity on-chain may face evolving regulatory scrutiny.

6. Disclosure

I currently hold no RITUAL tokens and have no financial interest, incentives, or conflicts related to the project. All information is drawn from publicly available primary sources (official Ritual Foundation tokenomics page, documentation, and project announcements).

Eligibility note: As of the latest available primary sources, Ritual has not conducted a completed public token sale and has not held a TGE. Public mainnet has not launched. Tokenomics and vesting schedules have been published ahead of launch. This satisfies the requirement of a pre-TGE project with documented allocations and unlock schedules.
