Payments-focused L1. No native token by design. No token or public sale found in Tempo's docs, FAQ or GitHub (checked 2 Oct 2026).

What it builds An EVM chain built on Reth for stablecoin payments. Fees are paid in USD stablecoins (TIP-20 standard) and converted through a protocol-level Fee AMM, so users never hold a gas token. Simplex BFT consensus, sub-second blocks (~0.6 s) with deterministic finality. Mainnet has been live since 18 Mar 2026 (chain ID 4217), launched together with the Machine Payments Protocol co-authored with Stripe.

Who is behind it Incubated by Stripe and Paradigm. CEO Matt Huang, also Paradigm co-founder. The client is open source (Apache-2.0 / MIT).

Token status The docs state "there is no native gas token". All fees accrue to the validator that proposes the block, in stablecoins. So there is no FDV, float, vesting or emissions to analyse, and I estimate none. Funding is private: a $500M Series A at a $5B valuation was reported in Oct 2025 (press, not docs). If a token ever appears, I would ask what it is for when gas is already paid in stablecoins, then check validator staking terms, insider share and vesting.

Verified vs. not disclosed Verified: open-source code, public mainnet endpoints, validators named in the FAQ (MoneyGram, Stripe, Visa, Zodia Custody). Not disclosed: completed audit reports, full validator count, timeline to permissionless validation, validator economics.

Main risks

  • Permissioned validators: running one "requires coordination with the Tempo team". BFT safety needs fewer than 1/3 faulty validators.
  • Security: the GitHub README says Tempo "is still undergoing audit and does not have an active bug bounty", while mainnet is live.
  • Dependence on stablecoin issuers and on Fee AMM liquidity.
  • Concentration: incubators and validators are large payment companies.
