Project Research Dossier: Miden (pre-TGE)

Question: Miden (privacy chain spun out of Polygon) has no token yet. Is there enough verifiable info to judge dilution risk?

Constraint check: no token (v0.16 on 14 Sep is "the last major testnet release before mainnet", no date; only a free testnet MIDEN exists), no public raise (private seed only), no launchpad sale found.

Data & evidence

• Builds an "edge blockchain": users prove txs locally with STARKs, the network verifies. Private/public accounts, Rust contracts, Agglayer.
• Funding: $25M seed, Apr 2025, a16z crypto, 1kx, Hack VC.
• Tokenomics: not published. No supply, allocations, vesting or FDV. Only number: ~10% airdrop to POL stakers (Polygon blog).
• Mainnet fees will be paid in USDCx, not MIDEN, so the token has no stated role yet.
• Team: Bobbin Threadbare (pseudonymous, 1,529 commits to miden-vm), Dominik Schmid, Azeem Khan (ex-Gitcoin, ex-Morph).
• Code: 58 repos, miden-vm 164 contributors, 116 commits in the last 30 days, release v0.34.0 on 27 Sep.
• Audits: OpenZeppelin (Aug 2026) 0 critical/high, 11 medium; Trail of Bits (Sep 2026) found a critical Falcon signature forgery bug, no public PDF.

Interpretation

• Nothing to model on FDV vs circulating yet. That is the finding.
• Seed investors entered Apr 2025. If a standard 12m cliff applies, their unlock could land close to TGE (unconfirmed).
• The staker airdrop is likely liquid float on day 1 unless it vests.
• Audited commit is not the mainnet commit, and the miden-vm README still says "not audited".

Risks: mainnet ~1 year late, critical VM bug this month, undisclosed team/investor split, unclear token utility, no decentralization plan, depends on compliance partners.

Conclusion: strong tech and code receipts, weak token disclosure. Rating: Watch (Tech 4/5, Team 3/5, Tokenomics transparency 1/5).
